Bio
I was born and raised in western Michigan, not far from Lake Michigan, which may help explain my love of lakes, streams and nature in general. As a child I was always sketching and won my first art award, a first place, at age seven. It was a black and white drawing of two draft horses Art and horses have always been the great passions in my life.
After devoting my early life to raising a family, riding, showing , breeding and sketching horses, I began my serious study of painting in the early nineties. I have had the benefit of instruction from some wonderful artists via classes and workshops in the U.S. and Europe. Texas has been my home since 1986 but I have lived in such varied places as Hawaii, Bermuda, Arizona, Georgia and Washington D.C. I love to travel and find new and exciting subjects to paint but I have learned to love the varied vistas of my adopted home state of Texas.
Studio painting has been my habit but I have recently acquired a great love of plein air painting. Being "in" the scene with all the sights, sounds, smells and changing light brings a new vibrancy to my paintings. My goal is to capture the light, spirit and essence of my varied subjects. It is my hope that the viewer will experience the joy that was mine in the creation of my paintings.
